7.9-Earthquake Rocks Philippines, Tsunami Watch in Effect

According to the U.S. Geological Service, a 7.9-magnitude undersea quake struck off the eastern coast of the Philippines Friday night.

The quake was centered 66 miles east-southeast of Guiuan Island.

Tsunami warnings were issued for the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Guam, the Northern Marianas and Papua New Guinea. Residents near the coast were advised to move to higher ground.
