Ford Motor Co. is forced to recall nearly 485,000 Ford Escape SUVs model years 2001 to 2004 because of sticking accelerator pedals.
"Inadequate clearance between the engine cover and the speed (cruise) control cable connector could result in a stuck throttle when the accelerator pedal is fully or almost-fully depressed," the NHTSA informed.
Already in July the NHTSA said it is investigating complaints about sticky throttles on Escapes. A teenage girl died when an Escape crashed in Arizona in January and so far nine people have been injured due to the problem.
