Study Finds Lack of Sleep Can Reduce Effectiveness of Vaccines

A team of reseachers at the University of California in San Francisco and Berkeley says that vaccines may not work if you get fewer than six hours of sleep a night.

The study included 70 women and 55 men ages 40 to 60 who were all given the hepatitis B vaccine in three doses. Throughout the study, the participants had to keep sleep diaries. In addition, 88 of them wore electronic sleep monitors.

"Sleeping fewer than 6 hours conferred a significant risk of being unprotected as compared with sleeping more than 7 hours per night," the reseachers claim.
