Obama Addresses Gun Control After Colorado Shooting
 

Days after the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado, Obama said he supports greater gun control and is willing to work with both parties to tackle the problem.

He hasn´t talked about gun laws but explained that "We should leave no stone unturned and recognize that we have no greater mission that keeping our young people safe."

Then he said that stepped-up background checks for people who want to buy firearms and preventing people with mental illnesses from buying guns "shouldn´t be controversial" but "common sense".

Gun control will never prevent someone from committing mass murder. Gun control only makes it harder for law abiding citizens to protect themselves from mass murder. I am tired of hearing the debate on assault rifles. The 2nd amendment was not put in place to protect hunting rights; it was created to give the people a fighting chance against an oppressive government. Yes this has become a completely unbelievable scenario to most people in the USA that depend on government handouts and government protection. I for one am not one of them. I do feel bad for the victims in the Colorado shooting and do believe it was a hopeless situation even if someone in the audience had their own gun, though not every situation would turn out this way had someone else had their own gun. Law abiding gun owners should not be punished for the acts of a mad man hell bent on murder.

There is a Reason why the USA has 5 times more people die in gun related incidents than Australia. Lack of Regulation.
It not that you cant own a gun here but you need a licence and you can´t carry it around for ´protection´ because that doesn´t work proven by the 4 extra people that die in the US for every death here.
there is a reason to have a rifle or shotgun there is NO good reason to have a handgun or assult rifle unless you want to kill humans.

multipule studies and tests have proven beyond doubt that ALL an untrained civilian (even profession soldier or police) will do is kill more innocent people. The WORST thing anyone can do in a Chaotic situation caused by fast moving bits of metal going into a crowd is put more bit of fast moving metal in the air.

Guess god damn what, people still get killed in that country. A screw driver is a lethal tool. Look at any prison, weapons of death and some are projectiles. So should we ban those too?

So on one hand your saying that guns need to be regulated and not carried by the general public and on the other hand you point out an article that is showing the exact point the 2nd amendment was put in to place with civilians unable to defend themselves due to lack of their own firepower. What side are you trying to push?

I´m not sure what studies you are referring to? I did state that the Colorado shooting was a hopless situation.

the US population´s resistance to tighter gun laws. In Australia our gun homicide rates per 100000 people are 37 times lower than the US (I hope my arithmetic is sound) and a homicide rate just over 4 times lower. If the right to carry a firearm is actually lowering homicides in the US this points to a serious violence problem in the US, a problem that isn´t being fixed by a huge gaol population and current law enforcement tactics.

More firearms just means more crazy idiots shooting first and asking questions later. Most US gun lovers have mental issues and small penises, so they like the Wild West climate just fine. The answer to a burning building is definitely not to add more gasoline. The NRA nuts don´t have the mental acuity to understand that. F%$k Ted Nugent and other like-minded cretins.

What you’re not seeing and what the anti-gun lobby fails to show is the areas of the US that have highest gun crimes (NY, Chicago, LA, Maryland) have some of the strictest gun laws in the country. A lot of the gun related deaths in those areas are also gang related which is a whole different issue.
