Sleep Deprivation Affects Immune System Like Stress

 

According to researchers in the Netherlands and England, missing a night´s sleep has the same effect on the body´s immune system than stress.

For this research, white blood cells were measured from 15 healthy young men under normal and severely-deprived conditions.

It was found that the white blood cells reacted immediately to the physical stress of sleep deprivation and directly reflected the body’s stress response.
