Ford said in its annual sustainability report today that it reduced the amount of energy required to produce a vehicle in its manufacturing plants by 22 percent in the last six years.
The automaker announced plans to cut usage another 25 percent over the next five years. It also noted reductions in water use, waste-to-landfill, CO2 emissions and improvements in vehicle fuel economy and safety.
"Sustainability has moved from the periphery to the center of our strategy for succeeding in the marketplace and helping to address global challenges," Robert Brown, vice president, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering said.
