Facebook Value Put at Between $85bn and $95 bn

Social network site Facebook has set a price range for an initial public offering (IPO) of stock that values the company at between $85bn and $95 bn.

The IPO is the biggest ever for an internet company and a lot more than the 2004 IPO for Google ($23bn).

8-year-old Facebook has 900 million active users worldwide.

Why is it worth anything? It produces no product nor does it enrich anyone´s life. Its value is imaginary.

Mega ad revenue? Don´t people have ADBlock installed on their browsers? So going off an article that said facebook made $10 off each user, would put the revenue at $9 billion. So where´s the other 80 billion coming from?

I have been online since 1998. I have never bought anything from an unwanted ad I saw on a web page. Never. I never will. I use Adblock Plus and Ghostery now and block those thieves. Who are these gullible suckers that Facebook ripped off for billions of dollars?

To be honest, I seriously doubt almost anyone is ´the sucker who buys things from unwanted ads´. Advertising has become an insane bubble of magical imaginary value that exists only due to people who run advertising agencies convincing businesses that it works and them not knowing any better as a unit.

Every single person (except for stonedwookie) who´s commented on this is an absolute ignorant moron.

175 million people visit Facebook each and every day, this makes it a fantastic place to run an ad. The ads are in a standardized format that prevents annoying flashing banners and etc.

Most if not all of these companies are not putting them up in hopes that you immediately click on them, visit the web site and buy the product. No sane person does that. It´s about brand recognition, and product awareness. As much as you and I may hate ads, we are probably more likely to try a product that we see advertised a lot, and even more if you see all of your friends that ´like´ that product or company. Statistics have been done by Facebook and other companies. There´s no arguing to their effectiveness.

@Lurker, why even post? You sound like you never went anywhere in life and now you´re angry/jealous of anyone or anything that succeeds. (Note: i´m basing this off the many months of reading your dumbass comments on most of the news I read). If shortnews didn´t abandon this site years ago I would request that you and veya_victaous be put on a new list titled "Shortnews Top 2 Ignorant Tools".

@fonzo- "So where´s the other 80 billion coming from". Why don´t you stop being a lurker/veya_vag and google "How internet companies value are calculated."

I like this site because it has a nice collection of interesting news, but damn there is soooo much beyond dumbshit responses to each article.

Please use at least 1 brain cell when replying to this.

I stand by what I said. Any tool on here is you and anybody that thinks like you do. Your comment is the only dumb one. This imaginary pixel house of cards called ´advertising´ actually has no value. It will come crashing down one of these days. And you script kiddies and MBAs will be no more. Advertising is not a product. It does nobody any benefit.

That´s your problem, you think for a business to make money it has to sell a tangible/digital product to a customer that gets a use out of it.

I hate ads just as much as the next guy, but it´s amazing how effective they are even if no one clicks on them.
