Samsung Dethrones Nokia as World´s Largest Cell Phone Maker

Samsung Electronics overtook Nokia as the world´s biggest vendor of cell phones for the first time, data by research firm Strategy Analytics shows.

Samsung sold 93 million phones in the first quarter of 2012 compared with only 83 million for Nokia. The Finnish company had been the biggest cell phone maker by shipments since 1998.

"The smartphone market has almost only two players, Samsung and Apple," expert Lee Sei-Cheol says. The next version of the Samsung Galaxy phones will be unveiled May 3.
