U-Stor Self Storage Bring in Police Because Family Kept Grandma in Storage for 25 Years

Clearwater FLA., Police still haven´t pressed charges against a family that kept their granny in a storage unit since 1995. Improper disposal of a body is a crime under Florida law.

Having been current for 25 years on the storage fees, the family never moved grandma into a proper grave. The granddaughter, after learning the unit might get auctioned off for late rent, told the storage unit not to auction off grandma.

The Clearwatwer Medical examiner stated the body had been "properly processed" for burial but the final arrangements were never made. On searching the storage unit, police found a blue casket but nothing else illegal.

1995 - 2012 = 25 years?

I caught that too...that would mean she would literally have to have been in there since 1987 < year I was born...

  The headline should have read
"Family too cheap to buy burial plot for dead grandma after 17 years."

That seems more fitting. Plus Confed is right, 2012-1997 is not 25 years...

Afford the monthly storage fee but not a burial?
17 years at let´s say $45.00 a month, that´s $9,180 dollars in storage fees. They only close a storage unit if you do not pay for more than 3 consecutive months. So they basically have been paying the whole time, which again is around $9,000 in storage rental fees.

Any funeral home will offer a "payment" plan, and since they already had the body ready and casket purchased, the only cost would be a plot, or cremation would have been under $2,000.

Lazy is what this family is, not poor.

Now add on the penalty for not disposing of a body properly, and the money that they MUST pay to bury granny, I hope grandma is laughing somewhere... she´s now costing them 3 times as much!!
