In his first court appearance related to his alleged terror plot at Fort Hood, Army soldier Naser Jason Abdo shouted, "Abeer Qassim al-Janabi Iraq 2006; Nidal Hassan, Fort Hood, 2009" to the media as he was led out of the courtroom.
The latter name is that of the accused Fort Hood shooter charged with killing 13 in 2009. The first name was that of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl who was raped and murdered by U.S. troops in 2006. Seven soldiers have been sentenced in that incident.
The outburst was Abdo´s first indication in public of the possible motive behind his plot, which included attacking Fort Hood and blowing up a local restaurant. Abdo was granted conscientious objector status because of his Muslim beliefs.
