The U.S. State Department issued a warning for tourists to "exercise extreme caution" at the Philippines. The region is suspected to harbor terrorists.
"Targeted sites may be public gathering places including, but not limited to, airports, shopping malls, conference centers, and other public venues," the statement released on Tuesday read.
Especially the island of Mindanao, Manila and the Sulu Achipelago are described as particularly dangerous.
Due to increased violence, the Philippine government declared a state of emergency in November, which is still in effect.
