Snow Storm Paralyzes Upper Midwest

Airlines had to cancel hundreds of flights due to a winter storm in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin at the weekend.

On Sunday, the storm caused miserable driving conditions, forcing many to stay at home. The National Weather Service reported 13 inches of snow by Sunday night.

"If people don´t need to travel, they shouldn´t," a Minnesota Department of Transportation spokesman said. "It´s really hard for people to see."

  @ everyone

I also live in MN. It wasn´t allllllll that bad. It was mostly just the snow being blown by the 30mph winds. But I also have 4 wheel drive and not a little Honda. And a lot of accidents, especially on hwy 100. Woke up to snow drifts up to the top of my stairs.

Completely missed us here in Chicago, luckily. The rain we got yesterday has started to freeze and now we´re starting to get some flakes, though...

  Actually it was very nice up here....

It went by just a few miles south of here and missed us completely. No snow and it was actually very nice here. Little wind, nice temps, no snow at all. The storm was mostly in southern Minnesota. Minneapolis got dumped on. I´m not far from Canada up here.

  Im in the Twin Cities..

and they did a crazy job of getting/keeping the roads clear.. I went out in the middle of the blizzard to get some food cause I didnt know what it would be like in the morn.. by the time I was on the way to work (6am) roads were pretty much cleared.

Airlines might have been paralyzed but roadways were impressively mobile.

Re: "global warming at it´s finest"

Which carries more moisture, colder air or warmer air?

  @ahhhhhhhhhhhhhssssssssssssss

Snow means precipitation when it´s below freezing. In Ohio February is USUALLY our driest month. So, yes. It probably is Global warming at it´s finest.

I drive a civic in buffalo, ny. I regularly drive by 4x4 vehicles spun out and in the ditch.

4x4 is nice, but more important is driver ability/responsibility and good tires.

  @Smarta$$

4x4s are great for accelerating in the snow, steering while accelerating in the snow and nothing else. Braking or coasting through turns are not assisted at all. most intelligent experienced drivers know this. Regrettably, Few drivers are intelligent or experienced drivers.
