When paramedics responded to the home of Daniel Webb, they found him in pain in his recliner, covered in sores and with a "very bad odor". He had been in the recliner since his return from the hospital in March, when paramedics warned him about this.
They told him that due to his large weight (over 500 pounds), he may not be able to get out of the recliner if he sat in it. Not having health insurance, he decided to leave matters "in God's hands" and lived in his chair.
He ate, slept, and went to the bathroom in his chair, which his wife cleaned every day. In order to get him to the hospital where he died, the paramedics needed to cut apart the chair and cut a hole in the wall of his trailer home.
