Fort Hood Shooting Leaves 7 Dead

Fort Hood, located in Texas, is the site of a shooting spree that has left at least seven dead and a dozen wounded. One suspect is in custody and officials are looking for one or possibly two more.

The base is currently locked down and the White House is monitoring the situation. There is very little information available at this time.

  Valk
 This reminds me of what you said to me last night. :/ I have a few friends that were in the 4th ID when this shit(Iraq) first started and I remember quite well the late night talks with several of the wives and a husband or two throughout the years. I hope that the little tykes aren´t too scared,I haven´t gotten any e-mails or messages from my one friend that is still there.

Shit Valk I just looked at the link you put up and I can just see what is coming next. The muslims will be accused of infiltrating our armed forces and it will be all because of Obama I am guessing here. Let us forget that it is a psychiatrist that was reported to be upset about his tour, it will end up being all about his name.

 by: TaraB     11/06/2009 12:36 AM
  @TaraB
 If anyone tries to blame this on "Muslim infiltration" because of Obama, they will really be showing their ignorance. The waste of a life that did this was a Major which means he´s been in a few years, at least since W, but possibly since Clinton.
 by: Manic_Panic     11/06/2009 01:10 AM
  @Manic
 I agree that it will show their true ignorance, I just know that some idiot will try to use it for their gain. I wish I had the power to call on the media and the political talkies and ask them for once to look at what happened as a tragedy and not some excuse to bitch about something that will just divide us more.

  Lesson not learned...
 A man with the name of Hasan is inside a US Army base that sends troops to Iraq, has access to weapons... what happens next? Its time to cut the bull and purge the military of these potential threats before the US does anything else. UK is the only country that has the balls to confront this head-on. They have a cunning new system of issuing visas for aspiring ´students´ that basically gives them the runaround. By the time they comply, the semester has already begun and the potential ´student´ is asked to try again next year.

 I appreciate your being politically correct. But, don´t you see that there´s a pattern emerging? I suppose we could all look the other way and pretend it doesn´t exist and make statesmanlike comments. But is that the truth?

  Shooter not dead after all
 Jayman- I am not being politically correct and I have seen what some of his co-workers were saying when they were told he was dead. There was a ´mistake´ at the hospital and he is very much alive right now.

From the 9:45 p.m. update:
"The military in an initial press conference had indicated the suspect was dead. Cone did not offer explanation for the mistake, other than to say there was confusion at the hospital. ...

Cone said Thursday night that Hasan was in stable condition but not speaking to investigators. When asked further about Hasan´s condition, Cone replied, "I would say his death is not imminent."

Of course the co-workers are just now speaking up about all this stuff he said and yet they never reported it! Hell I called what would be said the moment I saw his name I KNEW people would assume he was muslim. Just like some white girl gets raped in the poor side of town it is the brotha´s fault. Jayman my maternal grandfather was so racist that the KKK kept asking him to join and that is no bullshit. Not the proudest part of my family tree, but I heard and saw enough in the short visits we had to know exactly how a racist mind works.
Oh and Yep Fox got an exclusive interview when it was supposed to be locked down how amazing! Here is the update on that.
"FOX News interviewed Col. Terry Lee, who worked with Hasan. Here are some excerpts Fox provided:
"He said, ´Maybe the Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor." At first we thought he was talking about how Muslims should stand up and help the armed forces in Iraq and in Afghanistan, but apparently that wasn´t the case."

"He would make comments to other individuals about how we should not be in the war in the first place… He made those comments and he stuck strongly to his faith, but, as soldiers we have a duty to follow orders from our commander in chief and our political views are set aside."

"He was hoping that President Obama would pull troops out. ... When things weren´t going that way he became more agitated, more frustrated with the conflicts over there. ... He made his views well known about how he felt about the U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan."

  My Next Premonition
 I might have to start charging for my psychic services if this keeps up.
Next premontion is that somehow President Obama will be blamed for this happening. Beck & Rush will somehow get the facts so screwed up and will have people believing this is all part of his plan for the muslims to take over the US. Watch Fox tomorrow if they don´t start it tonight.

Forget the fact that this psychiatrist had tons of problems already and should have never been treating patients let alone allow to stay employed when he was at Walter Reed. This will be a missed opportunity for all of us to get together and demand out servicemen and women NEED to have mental health care and NOT be made to feel ashamed of it.

 by: TaraB     11/06/2009 04:16 AM
  Not racism...
 The war of the minds has already been lost. No matter what you tell them, they´re still going to consider it as a war against their religion. Under those circumstances, it would be plain stupid to put them in a position where they can do damage. There is nothing racist about taking precautions. Ideologically extreme minds seldom change. They´ll bide their time to do their stuff. I am not sure if leaving Al-Qaeda untouched is the way to go. While going into Iraq was plain stupid, I don´t think its the same with Afghanistan. With the theater of operations expanding into Pakistan (albeit without boots on the ground) its even more likely that this will be seen as a war of religions - which it is not. The ´racism´ word is bandied about so loosely that we often shy away from doing the obvious in fear of being accused of perpetrating it. In hindsight, Hasan gave enough hints to what was coming. But I suspect it was due to the fear of being branded racists that no action was taken. What is scary is that Pakistan has nukes and is deemed as the terrorist epicenter. How long before the obvious happens? Scary times.
 by: Jayman2000BC   11/06/2009 05:06 AM
  Headache
 Jay- I am sorry I didn´t make myself clear I was not calling you a racist. I spoke of my grandfather and his racism because I see things happen in the same order with those that hate muslims as it does when it is against a race, same type of behavior and comments. I think people fear muslims in America not because of a race, which couldn´t happen for obvious reasons, but because they assume that muslims want all Americans dead.

I wanted to make that clear because I do think it is about religion, fear of an unknown religion that many muslims are automatically thought of as terrorists who want the American to die. I also agree that racism is tossed around for anything these days. I believe one of the biggest problems we have is not racism, but classism, which is another story in itself.

You keep saying ´they,them,their´ and I have to ask who? Who are ´they? Why are´they´so bad? Should I not let one of ´them´ be my Dr or preform my surgery? What if ´they´ were born here and lived here for years? Is it only "they" who have moved here since 1999 that I need tow orry about?

I´m actually curious, because I keep getting warned about them or told that our government are in bed with them and I never got the damn memo informing me of who it is I am supposed to be scared of!

Muslims are at war against Christians! Muslims are at war against Americans!
Muslims are at war against Westerners!

Well I´m not Christian and neither are many in the US, a large amount that are just starting to feel it is safe to say it loud and proud even. I also have never done something against another person based on their religion or their class in life. So if you ask me Osama Bin Ladin can kiss my ass and apologize to me for what the hell has been going on the last 8 years AT LEAST!

If people want to fight the holy war then I will point them to Isreal and Palestine because all most of us want in life is for a decent wage, good friends and family and to possibly leave this place a little better than when I arrived. I could care less what race, religion, or sexual preference anyone is. What I do care about is people treating each other kindly and since I know peace won´t be attainable in my life, could we at least leave a little hope it will be in my childrens or grandchildrens? I don´t understand why any of this is too hard for us to do, we can send a man to Space but can´t find some little prick who wasn´t hugged enough by his mommy or his sisters.

 by: TaraB     11/06/2009 05:57 AM
  Well
 At foxnews.com, they didn´t allow commenting on their story, which I think was wise. But at FreeRepublic.com, they´re already saying this guy´s been seen wearing traditional Muslim garb and that he shouted "Allahu akbar" before shooting.
 by: Ben_Reilly     11/06/2009 06:49 AM
  @TaraB
 Their problem is not that their mom didn´t hug them enough. Their perception is that their Uncle - Sam did not hug them enough. We have a couple of colleagues at work of Islamic faith. Nice guys, both of them. But the moment any argument turns towards Iraq, Israel or Bush, they start to bristle. Don´t tell me they were not hugged enough too. Needless to say, we steer clear of those topics. You really don´t know what will tick them off. An innocuous word out of place and you could end up in Shortnews.

  Ben,Jay,anyone
 @Ben-"But at(blank) they´re already saying this guy´s been seen wearing traditional Muslim garb and that he shouted "Allahu akbar" before shooting."

I need to have a e-mail malfunction for the weekend because I already know what´s going to happen. Oh no, it says 911 visits in the corner(really it does!) so if I was crazy or if I believed that the guy had done either of those things I could have taken a screenshot and showed that it meant I was onto "their" plans!

Jay- Have you ever met someone Middle Eastern that wasn´t muslim, or was muslim and was actually really nice? I mean other than the guys at work who bristle when you mention 3 words that make them feel uncomfortable? They aren´t stupid, they know you guys are the first ones that would pull a gun on them if there was another attack on the US. Hell they would be dead on the floor before you even knew who actually attacked.

I have a question for everyone or anyone. Since the alleged shooter was single, 39, and no one seems to really(crazy conspiracy claims don´t count) know a lot about this guy how does anyone know if he is muslim or not? Because of his name?

 by: TaraB     11/06/2009 08:16 AM
  @Tara
 "...how does anyone know if he is muslim or not?" Can I answer your question with a question? How many Malik Nidal Hasans do you know that are not Muslim? I can assure you nobody from my vicinity went after anyone with guns after 9/11. I´d love to know what your take is on this - apart from your theory that these guys were not hugged enough. I know what will keep them happy - for us to shrug and say "sh*t happens" and do nothing while they go blowing up everything in sight.
 by: Jayman2000BC   11/06/2009 09:29 AM
  US Soldiers not even save in their bases!
 First this shooting in Afghanistan, now in the homeland, they must feel like they are nowhere save. Must be very devastating to the troop morale, a great victory for the insurgents. They can hit any time, unexpected and deadly. That is more scary than high-tech bombs and drones. A very good, low cost strategy.
 by: evilrat   11/06/2009 09:57 AM
  Jay
 Jayman the only person I quipped about not being hugged was Osama Bin Laden, I also said he could kiss my ass, not sure if you saw that part or not.

Answer to your question since you have been nice to answer all of mine, and honestly even knowing you don´t have the PC opinion. I know 3 Maliks (2 say it Mah LEEK, while one is MAL ick), 2 are black and 1 is Middle Eastern (Mah LEEK) and yes muslim. He works at the hospital as a TCA and goes to college for a degree in nursing. I almost said you would like him, he is a very smart, funny and decent guy. His parents moved to Dearborn pre 9/11 when he was a toddler so he has no accent, which he said has helped with people more than once. Like your co-workers you can see him tense up when anything about 9/11 comes up, he is often on edge if he gets called names and threatened which has happened a few times.

I really am not being PC like you first suggested, I am one of those people who prefer to think a person is judged on who they are and what they do with themselves, not by a religion(as long as they don´t preach at me) or a color. I have another question for you since the last one you answered with one to me.;-)

Do you think the next attacks that are attempted will be by middle eastern muslims or white al-queda operatives?

 by: TaraB     11/06/2009 10:31 AM
  evilrat
 You really don´t know anything about Americans do you? We are sort of like brothers and sisters because we can fight, yell, kick, bite, or chase after each other to the point people outside would think we hate each other. Sometimes we do, but attack us as a whole and we WILL stand up for each other. I know most people won´t remember how we reacted when 9/11 happened because ´someone´ had to go and ruin it all, but this country was close, you saw people get along better and feel closer as a community than you´d believe. We may be divided most of the time, but we unite when someone f´s with us and kills innocent people. I´m not saying this Malik guy was a secret terrorist because if he was he could have set a bomb off instead.

Did you know there is 7 elementary schools and 2 middle schools on the base? Did you know that the base is so large that they have their own fire, EMS and police stationed there? There would have been a lot more targets that would have gotten a LOT more attention than some Shrink who needed a shrink and he snapped.

We will mourn those lost and say how scary it is that it happened and we will talk about how we need to let our service members know that mental health is just as important as physical health and there is no shame in talking to someone. Some will say Obama is behind it and then others will tell them to shove it and the nitpicking will start up again until the next thing happens that makes us stop bickering. Rinse, wash, repeat.

 by: TaraB     11/06/2009 10:43 AM
  @Tara
 The answer to your question is any one of them - black, white, brown or yellow. It is not the race, it is the ideology and the indoctrination. If you look at the history of the faith, it is easy to see that it was made for the times that condoned these acts. Trouble is the faith despises and discourages change and evolution. When this is transposed on to modern society it throws up a lot of issues. The faith allows for and encourages violence on non-adherents of that faith. It stops when you adhere. Let´s all convert for the sake of peace and be done with it.

  Jay
 I don´t agree with many of the things mentioned here, but I do appreciate your honesty and that you also realize anyone could be a part of this army of hate. I don´t think that being muslim makes you are terrorist immediatley. I also don´t plan on changing my religion for the muslims or for the christians. The extremist views that some of their followers have are very disturbing and the hate from those groups are the sludge in the world. They have a right to have their religion and even spew what they want, but I will not join their ranks.

I think we have some VERY screwed up people in the US right now that are writing their own story when it comes to this tragedy(not on ShortNews). Some of the earlier posts on various sites claimed to have seen it happen and what he said, but the only problem with that is they have the wrong building. I know my e-mail won´t be the only one filled with insane claims and why I need to hate all the *insert derogatory name here* because they plan on taking over the country and raping my children. Nonsense all of it.

I want to thank you again Jay for discussing this with me and answering any questions I had, plus you didn´t call me names to avoid the question.

 Most Muslims are not terrorists but most terrorists are Muslims. Its unfortunate but true.
 by: Jayman2000BC   11/06/2009 02:56 PM
  Jay...
 ...You do know that there are other religions in arabic countries, right? So you can´t tell by a name what a persons religion in. I learned that in like 3rd grade. Sure you can assume, but then I could immediately assume from your posts that you are a young, white male from the midwest, and a racist but I could be, and most likely am wrong. See, assumtions don´t count. Also, I am curious, you stated earlier that there is a pattern emerging. Exactly what specific pattern is this shooting a part of?
 by: tuogh     11/06/2009 03:48 PM
  @Jayman
 You think there have been more Muslim terrorists than Irish terrorists? (Before anybody flames me, I´m of Irish descent, I´m not bashing anybody´s nationality). What about North American and European terrorists -- how many of them do you think are involved in ELF or ALF?
 by: Ben_Reilly     11/06/2009 05:31 PM
  ^^And don´t forget...
 ...all the quasi-threats they keep an eye on like the quakers and political activists, lol. I thought the same thing about the irish though.

  @ Jay
 Gosh Jay,

From your comment, you sound awfully like the Nazi talking about Jews in pre World War 2 Germany. So what is your next step, Concentration camps? The final solution? You say this is not raciest. Well think again Mr. Nazi.
You stated that most Muslims are not terrorist but most terrorist are Muslims where did you get that statistics Fox News again? Do you know the definition of a terrorist? How many terrorist acts were done by Muslims in America? How many terrorist acts were done by Blacks in America? How many terrorist acts were done by whites in America? How about KKK, how about the Arian nation? How about the skin heads? How about the settlers to the Native American can some one say Genocide of an entire native population? What do we teach in the history class in America? Most Native American died of disease; think about that for a sec how about the disease that Native Americans had that the settlers had no protection for how come there are not mass death from that. How easy it is to spin things, isn’t that terrorism of history to this day. Isn’t the Genocide of Native American terrorism in a massive scale, how about the Genocide of Jews in Europe? Is that not terrorism? Who were these terrorist Muslims? Jews? Or Christians? Before you spit your hate think because you are making most of us Proud Americans look bad. You stated that Muslim co-worker cringe when a discussion comes up about 911 or Iraq or Israel. Well let me tell you something. After 911 it has been open season on any one who looks like a Muslim. Most of these folks shy away because even today they are scared. Specially knowing the history of KKK and the treatment of Blacks in America. Israel has been supported by our policies and we all know what is going on there. Iraq is an illegal and unjustified war. Afghanistan is also an unjustifiable war, we are after the terrorist “Al Qaeda” not the simple cow herding folks that live in the back country of Afghanistan, we have the resource and the intelligence to go after the terrorist but rather we went after the entire country. In all of these Theaters innocent people are dying in the millions and we are responsible for it. It isn’t just the Muslims who cringe, Christians and Jews cringe as well. War is never good it is out dated. Funny though how you keep talking about modern society. Think again because you sound just like a Nazi. Back to this Story. This Hasan person is a mental case and is a mass murderer he dose not represent any religion or race he represent himself just like Timothy McVeigh did not represented Christianity or White folks. Just because you live somewhere between Red and Neck dose not mean you don’t have access to Education. Peace!!!
@ ALL!!!! Sorry for the rant!!!!

Peace to all

  What bothers me
 You see him in Muslim garb in the convenience store video and the news stories STATE that he is Muslim. He shouted Muslim before shooting. So it really LOOKS like he´s anti-American. This man was born here! He´s an American citizen. WTF
 by: reehaw     11/06/2009 05:53 PM
  @justus4all
 If name-calling is what lights you up, go right ahead. If you had bothered to read my earlier post, you´d know that I mentioned it was not about any race at all. When the war(s) is increasingly perceived as a war against a certain faith (which IT IS NOT), it would be foolish to put persons of that faith in positions where they could do harm. How many more incidents do we need to realize it? There have been many in the past and 2 in the recent past. I am not calling for any ´solution´. If you want to twist it around for some point-scoring, pls be my guest.
 by: Jayman2000BC   11/07/2009 02:45 AM
  @Ben
 "You think there have been more Muslim terrorists than Irish terrorists?" What´s your point? Are you saying if there is a counter-weight to terrorists it is suddenly ok to be a terrorist? Let´s say we have Buddhist terrorists, suddenly Islamic terrorism will be ok? Fortunately, the Irish do most of their killing in their own backyard - can´t say the same here. That is the difference. Reason why we are not talking about the IRA is because they didn´t do it in Ft.Hood. If they did we´d be having a go at them. This has NOTHING to do with RACE and everything to do with ideology.
 by: Jayman2000BC   11/07/2009 02:55 AM
  @tuogh
 You had a soldier lob grenades into the canteen not so long ago; you had a soldier turn his guns on his own team and now you have a guy who goes berserk and kills his own outside the battle grounds. It is obvious that the Muslims are not taking too kindly to this war. Why put them in a position where they can show their ire, is my question. If their mind is not in this war, asking them to partake in it is plain silly. I am not for this war myself but the soldiers have a job to do - right or not. I am sure you will cite a lot of atrocities that were not done by Muslims. I am sure there are and they are totally reprehensible too.
 by: Jayman2000BC   11/07/2009 06:03 AM
  reehaw&Jay
 reehaw-I saw that, but I didn´t have the sound up to know what they said. Showing that picture and then saying he shouted something? Well I know where the one guy got it form them, and how fast it spread.

Jay- There is more news about muslim terrorists currently I agree, of course you know I won´t leave it there right? ;-) Irish terrorists have been mentioned, the Oklahoma City bombings were done by white american men, the 60s were full of various groups and then we have those that blow up abortion clinics who are religious also. Muslims have been under the microscope since 9/11 and we were told to watch out for anything strange and report it, they didn´t come out and say it but there was that hint to watch out for those muslims(wink wink).

Jay-One last thing that you mentioned I want to bring up and that is the two other incidents with soldiers. It really isn´t just the muslim soldiers (I know you are aware)but many of the soldiers coming back or getting ready to go over again are mentally drained. We haven´t given them enough time between their next deployment and some it wouldn´t matter if there was years between deployment. Our men and women need to have competant psychiatrists(this guy needed his own) who can help these men and women with what they are going through. This idiot worked at Walter Reed and was talking to men and women who really need someone to help, not a guy that should be getting help instead of giving it.

We need mental health in a reasonable time, not just another guy standing behind a podium and making a good photo op and article.

 I totally agree. My son in law has been home for four years after being deployed first to Kosovo, then Iraq, then Afghanistan with the Marines. He is STILL getting counseling for PTSD. I´ve only heard a couple of horror stories, and those are only the ones he can talk about. Iraq was right after the fall of Baghdad, alot of bodies he helped pick up, and clearing out of buildings where they were being shot at. These guys need help, certainly.

  WTF with the bad assessment?
 Why would someone (veX) leave a bad assessment a day after I posted this saying it is out of date? I posted it about 20 minutes after the news started coverage. Of course it is out of date the next day.

  @Islamic rights advocates
 Is it a coincidence that it´s a moslem who decides to commit murder over the invasion of moslem nations? Sounds to me like people gave this guy equal treatment and thought the best of him until he murdered a bunch of our people. Clearly that was a mistake. Maj. Hasan lacks self control and spontaneously switched to the enemy!

This must not be allowed to happen again; the mental health regimes of the military have failed.

  reehaw, & VeX
 Reehaw- I believe it. My dad still has times that he gets upset and depressed over Vietnam. You can always tell when those memories are bothering him, he has a different look on his face that is a tell.

Vez what the hell is your deal? He already had it reported with what was there at the time which would have been 4:41 p.m.(EST) when it was still being updated. I am asking the admins to remove it because there was NO reason for it, he can´t edit the summary once he posts it no matter what new happens.

  @J&& who lives between Red and Neck
 Don’t be so naïve, this is not a war about, or for religion or about terrorism, it is a war for resources specifically Oil, we all know it. We invade and they fight back, we can spin it any way and justify it any way but the end result is, as usual and as throughout history, this is a war for resources, the mass public has to be convince about something on both side and as always, as usual and throughout history, to convince the mass herds and the simple folks on both side we bring in religion and call it with many names. It wasn´t any country that attacked us so why did we go after two separate countries. Think People Think for once on your own. It is your money and Jobs and lives that is being wasted in the name of patriotism while few folks on top are making billions.
