Michel Fournier, Sky Diver, Will Jump Into Space

Michel Fournier a French sky diver is preparing to jump from a balloon in the stratosphere and land forty kilometers to Earth. Fournier will be wearing a pressurized suit.

Weather permitting he will attempt the jump and if successful will break four world records; the fastest and longest free fall and highest jump and altitude record by man in a balloon.

The altitude he expects to jump at is 4 times higher than the cruising point of a jetliner. It has been a dream of Mr. Fournier's to attempt this jump and be successful after two attempts so far have failed.

  It is actually very interesting

Think of the US military applications to this, they could drop mechanized marines from space into unsuspecting democracies to overthrow their socialist elected ruler and thus successfully replace him by a violent dictator.

  Wow 2 comments in

and somehow we already have a
political Debate. I mean I dis-like
our current president as much as the
next guy but damn. I don't see how a
French sky diver with to much free
time has to do with the US military.
You want to draw a better benifit,
think of astronoughts having the
ability to parachute instead of just
go boom when something goes wrong.

"after two attempts so far have failed"

how do you fail at this and still try again? You either jump and die or jump and live.

  Been done.

So he floats a foot higher, or a thousand feet higher - he'll still never have as big a' balls as Kittinger (who did this in 1960).

  HALO

Look it up, I dont mean the game.

High Altitude Low Oxygen.

This would be impressive 50 years ago, now they need to dive from space itself to impress, even then its just a pilot, not as remarakable as the guy behind it :)

Actually who did design his stuff? Its a bit like a massacre, most people remember the person doing its name and not the victims names.

  Kittinger

Man, that guy's jump was amazing, and 40 years ago so think of the technology available at the time.

His balloon left without him ;)

  Too funny

Thanks for the link. This guy can't get a break. That is pretty hilarious.

  @AccessG

Actually HALO stands for High Altitude Low Opening. Its a term for a drop into a area at above 10,000 feet, and then opening your chute at the very last moment to avoid detection. Being above 10,000 does mean you have to wear oxygen equipment though

  Poor guy!

Can't believe his balloon just floated away minutes before he was about to go up!! That stinks.
