Washington: More than 10 years after it was first introduced by New York Rep. Louise Slaughter, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act has passed the US Senate 95-0.
The bill outlaws using genetic information gathered by medical research to discriminate against donors by denying them insurance coverage or jobs. President Bush will not oppose the law.
"It's the first civil rights bill of the new century of life sciences... We made sure today that our laws reflect the advances we are making," Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy told the LA Times.
