As reported earlier on SN, Abdel Rahman an afghani man who converted to christianity 16 years ago was discovered recently by his family and charged with apostasy which carries the death sentence in Islam if he refuses to repent.
He was released when prosecutors declared him mentally unfit to withstand trial. Following his release On Monday, hundreds of clerics, students and others chanting "Death to Christians!" protested in Mazar-i-Sharif.
This put the president Karzai in a difficult position to appease the international comminuty or his senior clerics who have united to threaten to incite Afghans to kill Rahman if he is freed.
