Survey: More Americans Try to Find Love Online

A new study by the Pew Research Center found that online dating is on the rise in the U.S. 15 percent of Americans surveyed said they are looking for love on online dating sites and/or mobile apps, up from 11 percent in a 2013 survey.

Pew says some 27 percent of Americans ages 18 to 24 reported using online dating, up from just 10 percent in 2013. Also the share of 55- to 64-year-olds who use online dating has doubled over the same time period.

"Overall, men and women who have used online dating tend to have similar views of the pros and cons -- with one major exception relating to personal safety," the report says. Women (53 percent) were more concerned about safety than men (38 percent).
