North Korea Digging New Nuclear Test Tunnel

Recent satellite images show that North Korea is digging a new tunnel at the nuclear test site Punggye-ri in the northeast of the country.

"While there are no indications that a nuclear test is imminent, the new tunnel adds to North Korea┬┤s ability to conduct additional detonations over the coming years if it chooses to do so," the website "38 North" of Johns Hopkins University said.

North Korea conducted nuclear tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013, apparently using the same main tunnel. In September, the country confirmed the resumption of operations at its Yongbyon plutonium reactor, which was shut down in 2007.
