Volkswagen Recaling 420,000 Cars in the U.S.

Volkswagen has issued a major recall in the United States to fix a fault that could prevent air bags from deploying.

The eight models affected are Tiguan, Passat and CC from 2010 to 2014, the Jetta and Eos from 2010 to 2013, the GTI and Golf from 2011 to 2014 and the Jetta SportWagen from 2011 to 2013.

The automaker says a string in the steering wheel assembly can become fouled, ripping a cable that controls the electrical connection to the front air bags.
