Oldest Sperm Ever Discovered in Antarctica

Scientists say they have discovered the world’s oldest fossilized sperm in the wall of a worm cocoon found in Antarctica.

The 50-million-year-old cells were an accidental find. The worm itself did not fossilize and all that was found was sperm and cocoon.

"I think we might have a really interesting system here that can be sort of a hidden window to the past. There could be a lot of potential hidden gems inside those cocoons," researcher Jakob Vinther explains.
