Samsung Faces Lawsuit in China Over Bloatware on Phones

Consumer advocacy officials in China are suing Samsung Electronics and Chinese vendor Oppo for placing too many preinstalled apps on phones and making it impossible for users to easily remove the apps.

A study showed that nearly a dozen devices carried numerous unwanted apps, such as online shopping apps or web dictionaries. The suit alleges that Samsung and Oppo didnĀ“t inform customers about the presence of the preloaded software.

"We hope it will force other companies in the sector to end the unreasonable, but common, practice of pre-installing apps without telling consumers," Tao Ailian of the Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Commission says.
