On Saturday, three girls in western Afghanistan have had acid thrown in their faces by men as a punishment for attending school.
The girls, aged 16 to 18, were reportedly making their way to one of the largest schools in the Herat province. Two of them are in critical condition following the attack.
Afghan girls attending school have been a target of terrorist groups in the country in the past. During the Sharia rule of Afghanistan between 1996 and 2001, The Taliban opposed and forbade girls’ education.
