Even though temperatures have been rising significantly in the last decades, they haven´t gone up as much as predicted.
Scientists say this slowdown in surface warming can be attributed to the climate cycle known as the Inter-decadal Pacific Oscillation (IPO), "a naturally-ocurring wobble in the climate system of our planet".
The cool phase of IPO could explain the slowdown of the global warming trend. Researchers, however, warn that this trend could reverse soon. "Should this happen, we will see accelerated global warming rates within the next few decades."
