How do I manage to accrue enough points so that I can be in the daily top 30?
Answer: Points are normally collected by delivering news, contributing comments and through assessment of other news. For each delivery you receive 100 points (but a maximum of 15 times a day), for comments 10 and/or 20 points (but here also a maximum of 15 times a day) and 20 points for assessment (the amount of possible analyses depends on the credits). Now you have around 1700 points. Really lots of points can only be achieved through visits (you receive 50 points for each 50 users who read the news item) and positive assessment of your own news by other users (10 points for a good assessment and 20 for a very good one). If you have a bit of a talent and also a good portion of luck when searching for news items, you can collect up to 4000 or more points. And if news is really well received, i.e. appears on the front page and doesn't disappear too quickly, you can be in the top 30 for several days with only one news item.

When and why are points being deducted?
Answer: For poorly and very poorly assessed news items by other users there is a 10 and / or 20 point deduction, if a news item is blocked (by us or the user himself), the 100 points for delivery are deducted and normally corresponding penalty points are given (a listing can be found HERE).

Furthermore, we naturally have the possibility to deduct points at anytime, which is the case if a user is trying to cheat for example.

Why do I have points deducted for blocking even though the Block-mail said no penalty points would be given?
Answer:The 100 points for delivery of the news are always deducted.

Do I receive points for every news item delivered?
Answer: No - you only receive points for the first 15 deliveries. Thus, it prevents users from delivering dozens of more or less senseless news items just to get into the top 30. If you deliver more news items you still receive points for assessments and visits.

Do I receive points for every submitted comment?
Answer: No - you only receive points for the first 15 comments. Thus, submission of senseless comments just to collect points is avoided.

Can I deliver as many news items as I wish?
Answer: Yes - there are no limits, and whoever wants to and has enough time can deliver 100 news items a day, although only the first 15 daily deliveries receive points. For submitted assessments and visits there are naturally points given.

How can I view a user's visiting card?
Answer: The user who created a news item or comment is always shown. Here a simple click on the name suffices to open a new window with the relevant visiting card. For users who neither submit news items or comments, you can use the search function in the forums to find other users and call up their visiting cards.

Back

How do I search for registered users?
Answer: Under "Forums" there is a user search, which enables everyone to search for other users registered with ShortNews, however, currently only nicknames can be searched for.
